Are you a leader or a follower?

There was a point over the past 2 years or so, when I have noticed that the trend was to dress like a hobo (well one with the ability to own the latest Fendi
Tulle-embellished suede sandals
), but for those who couldn't afford a pair stuck to Doc Martens.

It seemed like everyone jumped on the 90's grunge band wagon. And lord did they! The epitome of grunge and its movement, trend-setter and musical genius Kurt Cobain was the pioneer of this trend. He wasn't trying, just being himself, and he understood that style and ones individuality did not mean dressing how people should.

I applaud each and every individual for expressing themselves in a way they feel comfortable but when does a trend become too much? The shredded t-shirt was a favorite of mine. I tried, like many bloggers around the world, to replicate that idea. It however failed miserably and resulted in a t-shirt which once put in the washing machine came out even worse than intended.

Trends come and go, we all know that. Trendsetters are those who wear fashion and own it. Then comes the followers. Human beings as a race have always wanted to feel like they belong. Hell, I was one of the many teens who donned low rise jeans and tank tops ever since i saw Britney Spears don the flesh baring attire!

But when I see tens of thousands of people trying to attempt at being 'in trend' and not owning it, i ask myself, 'do we really know what individuality is?'

Wear it. Own it. Make it your own. Decide that you're not going to be put into that box and referred to as a follower. Cause no one wants to be a sheep. I know I don't.

Happy dressing!
